Girls' Tennis Team Is Third in League

"LOVE‑30! " is the cry that is known to all the members of the Maine West Girls' Tennis Team. This year the girls participated in the North Suburban Tennis League winning four meets and losing three. The victories were over Niles East, 4‑3; Maine East, 4‑1; Glenbrook South, 4‑0; and Deerfield, 5‑0. Maine West was defeated by Evanston, 2‑4; Maine South, 3‑4; and by Niles West, 2‑3. This record puts us in third place in the league, under the first place Maine South team and the second place Evanston team. Outside of Conference we had one win over Forest View, 4‑0, and one loss to Oak Park, 2‑5.

The team had two graduating seniors this year, Leora Winksi, '66, first doubles player for three years, and Dotsy Wagar, '66, a member for four years and a third singles player. An outstanding newcomer to Maine West and the team is Dorothy French, '69, who as a freshman is already playing first in singles and is ranked in the city tournaments.

The other members of the team are: Pat Clement, '67, Ruth Christian, '67, Sherry Catardi, '67, Bonnie Junius, '67, Gail Branda, '68, Renee Gatsis, '68, and Jan Rowen, '68.

Miss June Thompson, sponsor of the team, feels that "the tennis competition is the best that it has ever been." Next year we should do very well because most of the team will be returning."

The Maine West hockey field was a place of turmoil and action on Wednesday, November: 10, as the students played against the faculty in a stirring hockey game. Although the girls on the student
