Jed, is you going to that there education place? College, you call it, don't ya? I heard that it's a mighty high‑falootin' place. Is that right, Jed?
Fifth grade's as far as I got. Was pretty tough as I 'member‑addin' them big numbers in long lines didn't come to me too well. What grade do ya have to hit to be able to go to that college, Jed?
Twelfth grade That would leave me with‑hmm let's see now, oh well, that doesn't matter. Teachers must be purdy darn smart to teach ya all them things. Think maybe I could go with ya, Jed?
No, huh. Ya can't stay there all by yourself. Someone's got to watch over ya.

Oh, ya live with other kids. A dormitory-don't quite know what ya mean. I see now. Y'all live together with someone watching over ya. Who's gonna help make your plans, Jed? Ya never done that by yourself.
Yeah, I suppose ya gotta learn sometime. But ya just just got out of high school!
Ain't you a little young, Jed? I mean you could start later. Better to learn younger? Maybe so. Ya can't use your maw's feet to stand on all your life.
Well, Jed, this hole ain't gettin' dug by itself with me standin' here talkin' all day. Maybe you can come by again and tell me about it some more. See ya, Jed.
