Meets Start For Debate

"The federal government should adopt a program of compulsory arbitration of labor disputes in all basic industries" is the resolved topic of the next debate, 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 11 at Forest View.

Research, practice debates, and discussions are the main elements that strengthen the Maine West debate team. The team consists of four people and the debate lasts four rounds.

Mrs. Jean Klaus is the hardworking coach of the debaters, and Mr. Dewane Barnes is the assistant coach.

Maine West belongs to the Suburban Interstate Debate League as do Evanston, New Trier, Arlington, Forest View, Prospect, and York. Also included are Morton East, Morton West, Waukegan, Deerfield, Highland Park, and North Chicago.

This year our team will travel to Evanston, New Trier, Blue Island, Prospect, Southern Illinois University, and Northwestern University. Last year our team made the semi‑final round of the television debate show Rebuttal.

Mrs. Klaus thinks we have a good team this year, and she hopes for a competitive and rewarding season.
