Gymnasts Lose First Two Meets
of Season

The varsity gymnastics squad took two losses in their first two meets of the season; the score against Proviso West was 86 1/2 – 45 1/2, while the meet with Evanston totaled 84 1/2 – 47 1/2.

The musclemen will compete with West Leyden on Tuesday, and the results will be in the next issue.

Proviso West overpowered the Westmen last Friday 86 1/2 – 45 1/2, and our opponents managed to win in all of the six events. On the trampoline Larry Janssens placed third, Dennis Zick placed fifth, and Tim Harrity last. Maine lost on this apparatus by a score of 15 ‑ 7.

The side horse showed Larry Scully taking third, Don Clark placing fourth, and Ron Sass in fifth. The final score on the side horse was 13‑9. The horizontal high bar totaled a 16 - 6 loss for Maine with Jim Nerius in fourth, Ron Sass in fifth, and Jay Carley last.

It was a very close score on the parallel bars as Proviso edged Maine 11 1/2 – 10 1/2. Don Kennett placed second, Ron Sass grabbed third, and Larry Scully took fifth place. At this point of the meet the score was 55 ‑ 33 in favor of Proviso West.

On the rings Dennis Zick placed fourth, John Holtz earned fifth, and Tim Harrity took last place. The final score was 16 ‑ 6 and Maine was behind. In tumbling the highest placing Warrior was Dennis Zick at fourth; the score was 16 ‑ 6 in favor of Proviso West.

The varsity musclemen took a hard loss to last year's state champions, Evanston, with a score of 84 1/2 – 47 1/2, in their first meet November 24 at home. The squad was unable to outdo their opponents in any of the six gymnastics events.

At this point of the meet, Maine West was losing 56 1/2 – 31 1/2. On the rings John Holtz was the highest placing Warrior, taking third. The score on the rings was Maine 8, Evanston 14. In tumbling Dennis Zick took second, but Maine lost 14 ‑ 8. The final score was Maine West 47 1/2 and Evanston 84 1/2.

Tonight in B‑Wing gym at 7:30 the varsity musclemen will take on Maine South while the frosh‑soph gymnasts tangle with New Trier.
