VOL. VII, NO. 6
DECEMBER 22, 1965

In Council

Since school convened, Student Council has been a very active organization working to serve the student body. As 1965 draws to a close, it is time to reflect upon past activities and direct attention to those now being planned for the future.

Most freshmen will recall the early Student and Class Council elections, culminated by a very successful Newcomers' Party. At this same time our two AFS students, Gus and Velma, were becoming acquainted with a new school, new community, and new friends.

Pat Silk's election as Homecoming queen helped make that week one of the most successful in the history of Maine West. An excellent Dial Tone was obtained two months. earlier than before, and a recently held TB Drive resulted in the collection of $741, far exceeding the goal.

Still to be mentioned are the first two of Student Council record hops and the apple machine in the bus concourse-put in by request of our student body. Through all

this, Council found time to set up a Bus Service Committee, Fieldhouse Committee and Citizenship Committee, and to work on obtaining athletic-field lights.

At present, work is being done in the field of human relations and in an attempt to promote a college seminar and dance over the holidays for Seniors and Maine graduates presently attending college.

Soon after Christmas will be the annual Variety Show, AFS Week, Election Week, a Tri‑School Convention with Maine East and Maine South, and a student exchange.

Student Council wishes to express its deepest thanks to the students for their excellent support in 1965 and asks that this be further increased in 1966 to insure continued success. Wishing a happy holiday season to all,

Bob Burgess, president
