Kris and Rick Preside Over Clubs

With a twinkle in those hazel eyes, a bounce of short, blond hair, and an exclaimed, "Oh, swell!" Kris Nielsen, this year's president of Girls' Club, tries to keep up with her busy schedule. Besides being active in Girls' Club, Kris has participated in Pep Club, class council, Tri‑S, on the Westerner as Art Editor, her church Luther League, and Tri‑Hi‑Y.

This active senior likes people who are friendly to everyone and dislikes those who think they are superior to others. She feels that Maine West's school spirit is pretty good but that there is room for improvement.

Kris' most embarrassing moment took place at a beach house and is so embarrassing that she couldn't possibly relate the incident to anyone. Spending a summer in Florida ranks as her most exciting experience and being elected president of Girls' Club as her most thrilling.

The one thing that this remarkable senior would change about herself would be her 5'4" height to 5'2". Another great desire of hers is to learn how to surf. Her favorite food is that sea delight, lobster. When asked what her favorite things are, she replied, "Keith. . . and then there's food. . .and then there's Keith. . .and then there's food."

This vivacious person feels that Girls' Club representatives should be friendly, representative of all girls, responsible, and independent.

After high school Kris wants to go to Northern Illinois or the University of Wisconsin and become an airline stewardess. When asked about some of the present situations in the world, this thoughtful senior replied, "I hate the war in Viet Nam because one of these days there won't be anything to look forward to. I was also very delighted in the success of the space mission" In reply to a question about graduation, she said, "I think that everyone gets nervous toward graduation because there's so much to look forward to."

"Start the freshman year on the right track by being active in clubs and school events so in the later years you can obtain higher positions," says Rick Isenbarger, president of Boys' Club, as advice to students Our 5'10", blond‑haired, blue‑eyed personality of the week feels that Maine West has the greatest school spirit around when compared to other schools. But he also believes that it could be better considering the number of students we have. Likewise, he feels that extracurricular activities offered at Maine give every student the chance to participate in something that he enjoys.

Rick was vice‑president of his class last year and has served on class council for three years. He has been in Boys' Club for four years, and this season is on the Varsity basketball team.

His most embarrassing moment to date happened last year in his Junior Leaders' class while playing an exciting game of volleyball. His pants split. This wouldn't have been so bad, but they were playing against the girls!

Rick feels that good grades are important and school‑work necessary but that less emphasis should be given to grades and thus ease the minds of many good students.

This year Rick is taking English IV E, trigonometry, chemistry, government, and Latin American history.

Rick has his future pretty well planned. He has already been accepted at Illinois State Normal University in Bloomington, Illinois. After college he would like to be a teacher or a basketball coach.
