Netmen Finally Win

Saturday night the Maine West Warriors won their first game of the season over Deerfield. Maine was ahead throughout the; game. The final score was Maine 72, Deerfield 65.

The Maine West Warriors were defeated Friday night by the Niles North Vikings. At the end of the first quarter, Maine trailed 15 to 8. In the few remaining minutes of the first half, the Warriors started a running battle from one end of the court to the other making basket after basket. This drive paid‑off with Maine West behind by only two points at the half, the score being 26 to 28. During the third quarter, however, the Warriors were unable to continue the drive and at the end of the third were again trailing 30 to 40. The fourth quarter was similar to the third with each team making almost exactly the same number of baskets, and by the end of the game, the Warriors were defeated 52 to 43.

The J.V. netmen played a closer game against the Vikings losing by only five points, the score being 45 to 40.

Friday, December 10, the Warriors suffered one of their worst defeats of the year, 68 to 43, to the Maine South Hawks. This brings the netmen's record to 0 and 5 with previous defeats by Barrington, Waukegan, Glenbrook North, Niles West, and now Maine South.

The first quarter proved to be Maine's strongest, with a total of 14 points scored. The high scorer was Mueller with seven points, then Murdock with four.

The second quarter proved to be the Warriors' worst. Only four points were scored in the entire quarter. Murdock sunk three and Moehling, one. At the half Maine was behind 20 to 46.

Coming back with renewed strength, the Warriors scored 12 points in the third quarter. Unfortunately the Hawks scored 15 points, putting them ahead by 24. The high scorers were Moehling with four points and Mueller with four.

In the fourth quarter the Warriors again scored 12 points with Murdock making four and Mueller making four. As the final buzzer sounded, the score was 69 to 43 in favor of the Hawks.

Out of 48 attempts at the basket only 14 were sunk, and out of 24 free throws only 15 were scored.

One of the most outstanding features of the game was team spirit. The sell‑out crowd showed great enthusiasm and spirit.
