Judy Colebaugh '66 placed first in the annual Penny Flame Northern Illinois Gas Company Cherry Pie Contest. Nancy Anderson took second place. Both girls will be sent to the area finals and then, hopefully, to the finals. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to the winner and $300 to the runner‑up in the finals.

On January 6 the six girls who entered the contest were required to bake a nine‑inch cherry pie from scratch within a two‑hour time limit.

Mr. Herman Rider, principal of Maine West; Mrs. Gloria Saul, cafeteria manager; Miss Suzanne Horgen, home economics teacher; and Mrs. Lucille Stiles, chairman of the Home Economics department, were the judges.
