School Seal Promotes Respect

What good is a school seal if it practically has to be guarded?

A seal such as the one placed under the "Spirit of Maine" is a symbol. This seal is the school's own, and no other school has one that is just like it. It is the emblem of Maine West and should be treated like something special. Dirty footprints were not meant to adorn it. The student body meant it to be a symbol of Maine to be treated with great respect.

The seal is the property of all of Maine's students. Today's underclassmen will have to show next year's the proper respect, because like children they will learn by example. Respect for the seal would eventually become a tradition at Maine.

If the Student Council and the '65 graduates were willing to buy the seal for us, then we ought to respect their wishes and not complain.

Since the rest of the student body voted to respect the school seal by not walking on it, it is up to us to do just that.

Anyone who purposely goes against the wishes of his fellow students does not deserve to go to a school like Maine West.

A school seal is an honored tradition at East and South and should be at West, too.

Now that the seal is uncovered, maybe the students should pretend it is still covered and stay away.

The Maine West school seal is to be respected by all the students who go here now and in the future.
