Students Enjoy AFS Tour Of
Famous Chicago Sites

The Holiday Festival for Illinois American Field Service students began at 9:30 am. Saturday, December 18. Students included this year's foreign exchange students, a brother and sister from their host families, and Americans who have already traveled abroad with this program. They met at the Conrad Hilton Hotel in downtown Chicago. Participants were then taken by bus to the Museum of Science and Industry for a tour.

At the museum several reporters from Chicago papers were present. These men asked for some general opinions and views of the foreign exchange students. Later, some of these students went to the Channel 11 studios, located in the museum, and taped a new show that is to be telecast at a future date. Before leaving the museum they had lunch and then continued on the tour.

The next stop was at the Sun Times and Daily News Building, where they were shown how a paper is printed, put together, and distributed.

Upon returning to the hotel, the students were served dinner, and during the dinner the students who came from the same country sat together and talked in their native languages.

Several speakers, Milburn Acres, Ray Page, Dr. Preston Bradley, a priest, and a rabbi talked to the students.

Members of the different countries' embassies came to speak to the students. Fourteen hours later and after having seen a great deal of Chicago, the Holiday Festival came to an end.

Marianne Bretsnyder '66, Maine West student who is the host sister to our AFS student Velma Welch, said of the trip, "It was a very good program, and we would like to repeat it again sometime."
