Grapplers Defeat Glenbrook South;
Forest View Next

Tonight the Maine West grapplers will start their Conference competition when they take on Forest View in a home meet starting at 7:30. Saturday the grapplers will travel to Palatine for another Conference meet starting at 2 p.m.

The varsity grapplers defeated the Glenbrook South Titans 30‑12 to bring their dual meet record to four wins against one loss. Three Warriors pinned their Glenbrook opponents during this meet.

Dave Grutzius started the grapplers on their winning efforts as he decisioned his 95 pound opponent. Kurt Christensen and Ed Mordue, at 103 and 112 respectively, both lost on decisions.

At 120, Ron Ploshay won by decision to put the meet into a lie. Wayne Rozanski. 127 pounds, put the grapplers ahead as he pinned his Titan opponent in 53 seconds which is the fastest pin of the year for a varsity wrestler.

Maine's 133 pounder Pete Gano and the 138 pounder Tom Hansch both pinned their opponents in the second period. This was Hansch's fifth pin in nine matches. At 145 Randy Ryden lost by a decision to the Glenbrook wrestler.

The grapplers' 154 pounder, Steve Ryden, won by decision. Ryden is undefeated with nine wins to his credit. The 165 pounder, Jim Kautz, followed Ryden as he won by decision. Mike Schuepper, 180 pounds, won on a decision; and Royce Leonardson lost to the Titan heavyweight by decision.

In the Lake Park Quadrangular, in which Arlington won the meet, Maine West wrestlers placed third. Four Warrior wrestlers captured first place titles.

Sophomores Dave Grutzius and Kurt Christensen, at 95 and 103 respectively, placed third. Ron Ploshay, the 120 pounder, then placed third.

Warrior Wayne Rozanski followed Ploshay as he placed second in the 127 pound division. Greg Dolphin was defeated for his first match 1‑0 and lost his second match 3‑2, to gain a fourth place.

Tom Hansch, the amazing 138 pounder for Maine, won both of his matches to capture the first individual title for the grapplers. Maine then forfeited at 145.
