Warrior of the West

"A boy who comes out for a sport and can not stick it out" is the pet peeve of this week's Warrior of the West, Tom Hansch. Tom has brown hair and blue eyes, stands 5' 5 1/2" tall, and has been wrestling the varsity 138 pound division since his junior year.

Tom has been out for both football and wrestling all four years at Maine and has earned one letter in football and will receive his second in wrestling this year.

In Tom's first three years of wrestling lie has pinned 21 of his opponents. So far this year Tom is undefeated and has added five pins to his credit.

"Work hard and it pays off" is what this Warrior advises anyone going out for a sport. This is one of the main reasons that Tom has turned into one of the most exciting and outstanding wrestlers that Maine West has had.

"Being named to the All. Conference football team would have to be my biggest thrill," Tom stated. To get in shape, Tom played football this summer and thinks the hardest part of training is getting in shape.

Tom would like to attend college next year on a scholarship in either football or wrestling and would like to improve his scholastic ability. The coaches are outstanding at Maine, according to Tom.

Tom's most exciting football game was against Peoria, because he made the most tackles in this game. His best wrestling match was against Glenbrook North when he defeated a boy who had claimed seven straight victories.

"Wrestling is my favorite sport because it is an individual sport," Tom revealed. Girls and athletics are Tom's hobbies.

What is Tom looking forward to in the future? "I will try to take State in wrestling." If we work as a team we have a great chance to take Conference," Tom stated. Tom's favorite athlete is Paul Horning. Tom believes the school spirit could be improved if more people came out to activities.
