Brotherhood Is..

What is brotherhood? Is it acting as a brother to everyone and going out of your way for the people around you? Is it being thoughtful and considerate? These ideas are only words, for the true meaning of brotherhood lies in abstract ideals; it lies in the heart and is presented through actions toward people.

Brotherhood Week at Maine should serve as a reminder that brotherhood is not only to, be practiced during one week but during the whole year. People can't practice brotherhood a few times a year, for it affects our everyday lives; brotherhood is often preached about, but it is seldom practiced. The true spirit of brotherhood should exist throughout the year.

Brotherhood affects the relationship between people in all areas of living and is the difference between a serene person and a person comprised of hatred. Learning brotherhood in the early years of life can be very useful for experiences later in life.

Do the students at Maine West practice brotherhood? Should Mainites learn to be more considerate, thoughtful, and friendly?

The students always talk and complain about "the other student" not being friendly and not possessing the other qualities of brotherhood, but do we look at ourselves to see if we go out of our way for people and act considerate and thoughtful toward others?
