Bucketmen Lose Hard-fought Game

The Varsity bucketmen dropped a hard‑fought battle to the Prospect Knights last Friday night by the score of 47 to 36. Maine held close for three quarters of the ball game, but were not able to contain Prospect's Tom Lunsted, who made 22 points in the second half. Tom Beard and Lunsted of Prospect dominated the rebounding and might have put the contest out of reach early had they not committed so many violations and ball‑handling mistakes.

Warrior Ken Mueller led Maine's scoring efforts with a total of 16 points.

The week before the Prospect game, Maine was downed by a well-balanced Conant team, 54 to 45. Conant streaked to

a ten point halftime advantage; although the Warriors played strongly in the last two periods, they were unable to overcome the Cougar's lead. Conant employed a 1-2-2 zone defense which limited Maine to outside shots and left Conant in good position to control the rebounding.

Leading the Warrior point production were Dick Manny and Ken Mueller, who contributed 21 and 13 points, respectively. Conant's scoring was spread mostly among three players Glashow, Powell, and Lunebach.

The first weekend of the Conference season was a rather dismal one for the Warriors, as they were downed by Forest View, 51 to 48, and by Palatine, 74 to 55.
