"Our toughest opponents to repeat as Conference champs will again be Prospect," stated head track coach Mr. Joe Jobst. The loss of Rich Bokor, Lloyd Schlegel, John Greco, and Russ Suszko will hurt this year's team in trying to repeat as Conference champs. These four boys are doing well on track teams in their freshman year of college as they did last year on the Maine West track team.
In their first indoor meet of the season the varsity trackmen placed third in the Proviso West Quadrangular in which Proviso West took first and Proviso East placed second, and Hinsdale captured fourth.
Bill Morstadt and Wally Tistle placed third and fifth respectively for the trackmen. Sophomore Lee LaBadie then placed second in the two mile run ahead of Ed Katz of Proviso West, who was a District cross country champion.
Warrior Kevin Flurkey captured second in the half‑mile run missing first place by only one second to Al Jakosa of Proviso West, who placed fifth in the State meet last year. Junior Ed Lusk came through for the Warriors as he placed third in the half‑mile.
Another distance man, Doug Chase, placed fifth in the mile run, Maine's mile relay team of Barry Johnson, Jim Braun, Flurkey, and Lusk captured second behind Proviso East.
In the field events Warrior Jim Hren captured the best place for the trackmen as he was fourth in the broad jump. George Bongratz was the only other Warrior to place in the field events as he took fifth in the shot put.
