Cindermen Prepare For Meet at Proviso

Tomorrow the Maine West varsity and frosh‑soph trackmen will run in the Proviso West Invitational starting at 12:30 p.m. In dual meets this year the varsity runners have won two and lost two meets.

The varsity trackmen lost to last year's State Champs, Evanston, by a score of 89'2 to 1912. The mile run was the most exciting race as sophomore Lee LaBadie won with a time of 4:34.3, beating Evanston's sophomore, Dave Abernathy running at 4:34.4. Two other firsts were taken by the Warriors. These were Phil Martin, who won the two mile run, and Ed Lusk, who captured first in the half mile.

Although the varsity trackmen swept the broad jump, high jump, and the two mile run, they still lost to Morton West 55 to 53. The Warriors were winning 53 to 50 going into the last event, the mile relay; but Morton captured this event and the meet.

In the broad jump Jim Hren captured first, Ted Faught second, and Bob Holm third. The other event that the Warriors swept‑the two mile run‑saw Lee LaBadie first, Phil Martin second, and Bob Zografos taking third.

The only other first won by the Warriors was in the low hurdles as Vern Ray captured a first. Ray also took second in the 50 yard dash. Another seconds was by Kevin Flurkey.
