Six wrestlers from Maine West were entered in the District meet held at Palatine last Friday and Saturday. The boys representing the Warriors were Dave Grutzius, '68, the 95 pound grappler; Kurt Christensen, '68, 103 pounds; Ron Ploshay, '66, 112 pounds; Wayne Rosanski, '66, 127 pounds; Tom Hansch, '66; 138 pounds, and Steve Ryden, '66, 154 pounds.
In all, there were 32 teams entered in the tourney; and when the points were totaled, Maine was in sixth place with 26 points.
Steve Ryden led his teammates in the meet with a first place which will enable him to take part in the State meet that will be conducted at Evanston this year. Steve earned this honor by pinning his first opponent from Belvedere in 5:36 of the match and winning his last two matches. Argo of Rockford was Steve's opponent in the finals, and the match was a real squeaker as Steve edged him 2 to 0.

Tom Hansch and Ron Ploshay copped third places for the Warriors. Tom won a close decision, 5 to 4, in the first round, but was then beaten by Nunuz in his second match, 7 to 2. In the consolation round, Tom took third place as he won handily over his opponent.
Dave Grutzius was a fourth place finisher for the Warriors. Dave got by in the first round, but was clobbered in the second round, 11 to 2. Dave was then beaten in the consolation round by Pine of the Maine South Hawks. As a team the Hawks finished near the bottom of the pile with 5 points to their credit.
The State meet will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday at Northwestern, and the second round of the meet will begin at 7 p.m. Friday.
