Warrior of the West

"In order to get anything out of athletics you have to put a lot into it" is what Ron Ploshay, this week's Warrior, has learned from participating in athletics. Ron stands 5' 7", has blond hair and blue eyes.

Ron lettered in wrestling both this year and last, and has wrestled All‑Conference for two years. He cited as his best match beating Omar Aviles, who was rated quite high in State last year. This year Ron's greatest match was taking first place in District in the 120 pound weight class.

"You must be willing to work hard and sacrifice eating" is the advice Ron gives to any boy going out for wrestling. Ron said the hardest part about training is cutting weight and the hard workouts.

Ron kept in shape during the summer by lifting weights. His hobby is water skiing, and his favorite "big-time" athlete is

Johnny Unitas. Wrestling is Ron's favorite sport because it's an individual's sport; and if one loses, he can only blame it on himself, not anyone else.

When Ron was asked what is most outstanding about Maine West, he replied, "The coaches - especially the wrestling coaches."

Ron thinks "School spirit could be improved if we got people to come out and support the smaller sports."

Ron attended Mount Vernon High School in Virginia and came to Maine when he was a sophomore. He is planning to try for a scholarship to play in college sports or else go on to the army.

Besides practice, Ron is kept busy with his studies. Presently, he is taking English IVM, intermediate algebra, government and economics, and commercial law.
