According to blond‑haired, hazel‑eyed Mary Holm, Student Council is starting the year off with a bang. "This year Student Council has a great group of kids. They're really enthusiastic. Everyone is doing a great job of getting things organized." Mary, secretary of Student Council, also added that "It's been hectic so far with the elections of Freshman Class officers and Student Council representatives, but I love it anyway."
She hasn't had any serious problems yet. However, it seems that Mr. Eldon Burk, faculty sponsor of Student Council, and Doug Chase, president, are constantly teasing Mary because she doesn't know how to type or spell. Even so, she thinks that she "might just learn to type by the end of the year. I'm getting a lot of practice because I had to type the twelve-page constitution in two days."
For Mary Holm, being Student Council secretary is almost like having a full-time job. She works first, seventh, and ninth periods and until five o'clock after school. Despite this fact, Mary still feels that "It's worth it.
Even though Mary has been on Student Council for four years, she still finds time for other activities such as Brotherhood Society and Senior Leaders. In past years she served as AFS secretary, Junior Prom decorations chairman, and the Sophomore representative to the Christmas Formal.

During the past summer Mary, along with Doug Chase, attended the fifteenth annual National Student Council Leadership Conference at Estes Park, Colorado. While they were there, they exchanged ideas on leadership skills and techniques with nearly 200 high school leaders from throughout the country. Mary stated that the trip to the Cheley Colorado Camp "was my most inspiring moment."
Mary's main desire is to make this year's Homecoming "the greatest." In order to do this, "We need the support of all the students."
What does she think of the Freshman Class? "They're really great. They seem fired up and very enthusiastic about everything." Her pet peeve is students who waste their four years of high school by not participating in any activities.
When she graduates, Mary hopes to attend Illinois State University at Normal. There she will major in special education and someday hopes to teach retarded children.
This year Mary is enrolled in English lVE, government, conservation, speech, Art I, and is serving as a Senior Leader. "I really enjoy my Senior Leader position with the Freshman class I have."
