Doug Chase Presides Over
Student Council

And now, our mystery guest. For this one, panel, you must guess who our interviewee is and what position he plays in school life. He is 5' 9' tall, has brown hair and brown eyes, and weighs approximately 140 pounds.

He is an active senior who is enrolled in trigonometry and analytic geometry, English IV A.P., modern history, government, and physics besides his sports activities for which he was offered membership in M‑club. He is also a member of Brotherhood Society.

"Get involved in extra‑curricular activities'' is his advice to students. He also has this observation to make: "When school spirit goes down in sports, it goes down in other things too."

Still need a few more clues? Well, his favorite foods besides steak and pizza are pastries, especially Long Johns. His pet peeve is competition cheers because they "put class before school."

Our guest has also traveled through New York, Florida, Colorado and Washington. The state of Washington, and particularly Seattle, is his favorite because of the mountains and seacoast. During the summer he worked at a camp in Colorado.

His hobby is "girls," and during his spare time he reads or watches sports events on television. He enjoys participating in water sports himself.

"The tremendous faculty and the great kids" are what he considers best about Maine West, while he also feels that

"Maine has so many opportunities for someone interested in anything that when a student leaves Maine he should have a magnificent education."

"Henri," as he is often called by his friends, would like to attend either Carlton College in Minnesota or Harvard University, pursuing perhaps a law career, one of teaching college, or politics.

Do you give up? Two more hints‑during the banquet for newly elected officers of Student Council, his name was announced. But instead of taking his newly acquired place at the speaker's table, he nervously rose in acknowledgement and then sat down. His suggested improvement of Maine West also has to do with Student Council. "It would be wonderful to interest the entire student body in Student Council," he said.

If you guessed Doug Chase, you're correct. Doug, as president of Student Council hopes to make this year one of Maine's best. "When I was a freshman, there was talk of lights for the football field. Now we've got those lights and there is talk of a field house. I hope that we will have one in the near future. Dad's Club and the auxiliary civic organizations deserve the credit for the lights.
