AFS Week Profits Go To
Exchange Student

Last Friday, March 3, was the end of the AFS Week sponsored by the Student Council. All of the money collected by the Student Council and that donated to the fund by clubs will go toward all school expenses and money for the trip home for the foreign exchange student.

On Tuesday, February 28, an ice cream social was held in the cafeteria. The profit was $26. The chairman of the committee was Pam Kariotis '69.

On Thursday, March 2, a record hop was held in the cafeteria. Bill Zografos '68 was in charge of the committee running this affair. The profit here amounted to $73. Dhyan Fehrenbacher '67, chairman of the AFS Committee, commented that the turnout was average and that she and the students on the AFS Committee really appreciated the help of the combo, "The Other Half," for volunteering their services.

On Friday a taffy apple sale was held in the bus concourse and in C‑wing. Eighteen boxes of apples were sold. Jody Kinder '69 was at the head of this committee.

Mr. Eldon Burk, the sponsor of the AFS Committee, told what he thought of the results of the AFS program. He stated, "The results are always good especially for those who come in direct contact with the exchange student. I think the committee did a very good job in reaching its goal. The students showed adequate enthusiasm toward the whole project."

Sukru Gurel '67, Maine West's foreign exchange student will give his talks during the homeroom assemblies starting March 12. He will speak about his country, Turkey. It is customary for the exchange student to speak at assemblies during AFS Week, but this couldn't be arranged because of scheduling difficulties.
