Warrior of the West

Jim Kesaris represents the track team as this issue's Warrior. Jim is six feet tall, weighs 160 pounds, and has brown eyes and black hair.

Track and cross country are Jim's favorite sports because he considers every meet to be a new challenge. He has earned one letter in cross country and will letter in track this spring. One of his foremost contributions to the track team has been added depth in the long distance running.

The 1966 cross country Conference meet is the meet that Jim considers his most outstanding.

In this crucial contest Jim beat Arlington's fifth runner in the final stretch to assure Maine West of first place.

"Always stick with it no matter how many disappointments you have," Jim advises boys going out for track. He feels that "keeping mentally fit for every practice and meet" is the hardest part of training.

"If everybody works as a team, we should take the title" is Jim's opinion of the track team's Conference chances this year. As a distance runner, Jim works in the one‑mile and two‑mile events. He is also looking forward to this season when he can renew the private rivalry that he has with a certain Forest View runner.

From his participation in athletics, Jim has 'earned responsibility to himself, his coaches, and his teammates. His pet peeve is "the guy who quits right away." After practice Jim keeps a tight schedule to get his homework and studying done.

Jim thinks that the most outstanding advantage of Maine West is the way the teachers and coaches have concern for the students. In spite of what the members of Pep Club may think, Jim believes that school spirit is "all right."

Next year Jim plans to attend the University of Illinois in Urbana.
