Howie, Chuck, Frank Score High
in Math

Howard Tyler '67, Charles Hanna '67, and Frank Schulz '68 took the three first places in Maine West's annual Mathematics Contest. The contest took place on March 9 following a preliminary contest on February 21.

Sixty students participated in the test, which covered secondary school mathematics, concentrating on algebra and geometry.

The 55 finalists from Maine West are Howard Tyler, Charles Hanna, Frank Schulz, Don Maruska, Norm Hudson, Norine Meister, Mary Beth Moll, Phil Schug, Char Freeman, Terry Venema, John Carlson, Kathy Geertz, Joe Kilar, Jeri Jacob, Mike Tamillo, Frank Grange, Mark Weaver, James Birchfield, Bob Kariotis, and Elizabeth Kumek.

Other finalists are Russ Currer, Pete Klages, Dick Manny, Ron Kempke, Ann Jackson, Frank Utes, Ray Didier, George Bongratz, Carolyn Shayman, Gary Smith,

Dan Beck, Lois Lundquist, Mark Krebs,
Ed Pluemer, Jeff Rizzo, John Bishop, Dhyan Fehrebacher, and Susan Gray.

More finalists include Kathy Gragg, Tim Hinde, Geri Boker, Andrew Hill, Diane Meyers, Bill Schultz, Melissa Amling, Jim Braun, Barb Fitzgerald, Brad Price, Kurt Krebs, John Sukach, Ernest Kolton, Pete Saxe, Bob Schwenke, and Mark Weston.

The total of the score of the first three places, 142 points, will be the team score for Maine West in the state competition. The results of the statewide contest will be known in a few weeks.

High school students throughout the United States and Canada participate in the contest which is sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America. Mr. David Henry was in charge of the contest at Maine West.
