Racketmen Shut Out Niles North

Last Wednesday varsity tennis Coach Roger King sent his squad into the dual meet season against Niles North, and they responded admirably by shutting out Niles 5 to 0. This was the twenty‑sixth out of 27 successes in dual meet competition for the racketmen over the past several seasons. The streak was snapped by Niles East at 20 straight, and the Warriors met this team this Wednesday. Details will be in the next issue of the Westerner.

Tomorrow, the Tennis team will play host to Homewood‑Flossmoor, Lake Park, and a substitute team for Waukegan in the Maine Invitational Triangular. The meet was washed out by last weekend's rainstorm and was rescheduled for this Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

John Stone won handily in the first singles of the Niles North meet with a 6-2, 6-2 conquest of Mayers. Following that

victory was Dave Williams of the Warriors posting a 6-2, 7-5 second singles win over opponent Newman.

Third singles was snatched by Mainite Don Clark who took a three‑set victory over Gould of Niles by scores of 6‑3, 3‑6, 7‑5.

In the first doubles competition Hank Blau and Scott Schlesser of Maine were successful over Lifton and Herter of Niles North, 6‑3, 6‑2.

Second doubles saw the Warriors on top again as they completed the sweep for the shut out. Niles sent Clarkson and Keller against Warriors Bill Caddy and Larry Scully, a n d the Maine duo won in straight sets, 6‑2, 6‑2.
