With the fine assistance of Mr. Sidney Drain, varsity gymnastics coach, Larry Scully and Ron Sass did an excellent job of representing Maine in the State meet which was held at Prospect High School on March 11.
Many viewers, who were there at the meet or watched it on television, saw Larry Scully swooping into third place on the side horse only .05 of a point below the second place finisher. Ron Sass was unable to qualify for the State meet but did make it as far as the State preliminaries.
In the State preliminaries which were that same day and the previous day, March 10, Larry Scully qualified on a missed routine which found him in tenth place. Ron Sass took eleventh place on the parallel bars, twelfth place on the high bar, and a tenth place in the all‑around event because he, too, had missed his routines. Only the first ten finishers in every event except all‑around were able to compete in State finals.

This is why Ron Sass did not qualify.
On March 4 the musclemen were involved in the District meet in which they took seventh out of the 14 schools entered. Here Ron Sass took a second place on parallel bars, finished seventh on high bar, and was fourth all‑around. Larry Scully finished a fine fourth on the side horse.
In the Conference meet which was held at Wheeling on February 25, Larry Scully finished second on the side horse; and Ron Sass captured three second places which included one on the parallel bars, another on the high bar, and one in the all-around event.
