Art Department Exhibits
Outstanding Art Pieces

The grand opening of the Maine West Festival of Art will take place on the evening of Monday, May 1, from 7 to 9:30 in the auditorium.

This exhibit of the most outstanding art pieces done this year by the students will also be open May 2, 3, and 4 during periods three through eight. Any student wishing to attend the exhibit during these days may obtain a pass in advance from his study hall teacher.

One of the big attractions this year, according to Mr. George Blanas, head of the Art Department, will be exhibits and demonstrations by well‑known artists. There will be a different artist each day.

On Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. William Hinz, professional designers noted for their hooked rugs and wall hangings, will be present to demonstrate their techniques.

On Tuesday Mr. Arnold Arnam, illustrator for The Chicago Tribune's Graphic Section and Feminique, will be at the festival to display his work.

Mr. Richard Loving, an instructor at the Art Institute, will explain and demonstrate the process of copper enameling on Wednesday.

On Thursday Mrs. Edna Arnow, who is known throughout the Midwest, will demonstrate the art of throwing pottery on the potter's wheel.

The more than 200 pieces on exhibit were created by the Art I, II, III, and IV classes, the sketching classes, and by Crafts I and II. Instructors of these classes are Miss Nadine Meyers, Miss Tina Tabachnick, Mr. Earl Meitzner, Mr. Eugene Patrizi, and Mr. George Blanas.
