Golf Team Posts First Season Win

Balance was the key to the victory posted by the varsity golfers in their first meet of the year. In the meet held on Tuesday, April 11, Maine downed Elgin by a score of 184 to 188 at the Warrior home course.

The third and fourth men on the Warrior squad proved to be the deciding players in this initial meet. After the first two Warriors, Rick Merk and Dave Krowka, came in with scores of 48, Elgin took a seven-stroke lead. However, the Warrior

balance then prevailed as Dave Grutzius and Ken Helfers completed their nine-hole play with identical scores of 44.

On the cold and wind-swept golf course of the Park Ridge Country Club, Elgin's Bob Kramer took medalist honors by shooting a round of 43. Because of the bad weather the Maine West stickmen had poorer scores than they might normally have had.
