Racketmen Take Third Season Win

Willowbrook was the third Conference champion to fall to the tennis team of Maine West. The reigning titleholders of the Des Plaines Valley League fell to Coach Roger King's Warrior aggregation last Saturday afternoon, 4 to 1. This moved the Maine dual meet record to a fine 2 and 1 with their lone loss coming at the hands of the Niles East Indians.

The tennis team will now move into Mid‑Suburban League action against the Wildcats of Wheeling. The Warriors are the defending champions of the Mid‑Suburban League; and Coach King listed Arlington, Prospect, and Palatine as prime obstacles in the Warrior drive for back‑to‑back titles.

John Stone started Maine off right with a thorough drubbing of his opponent Matthews as the Willowbrook first singles player was downed, 6‑0, 6‑2.

Second singles produced an interesting match with Warrior Dave Williams taking a 6‑4, 3‑6, 6‑3 victory over Willowbrook's Fields.

The only setback that Maine suffered in the meet was taken by Don Clark in the third singles match. Ulrich took a 6‑1, 6‑2 decision over Clark to afford Willowbrook a little consolation from the team defeat.

Scott Schlesser and Larry Scully formed a successful duo in first doubles by dropping Willowbrook's Turek and Brocek, 6-1, 6-3.

Second doubles saw Warriors Bill Caddy and Hank Blau take three sets to record a 3‑6, 6‑1, 6‑2 victory over Tiegs and Martin. The Warriors next encounter will be in the Maine Triangular when the Warriors will match talents with Maine South and Maine East.
