Blond, hazel‑eyed, and 5' 2" tall is an accurate physical description of the editor‑in‑chief of the Westerner and one of this week's personalities, Karen Felix.
This pert senior is a member of Quill and Scroll, National Honor Society, and Ski Club. She is also vice‑president of Pegasus Club. Her course of study consists of English IVE, French IV, advanced and college algebra, democracy, and Senior Leaders.
When asked about her advice to students, Karen was quick to reply, "Don't get so wrapped up in things that you can't take out a little time to have some fun."
She thinks the best thing about Maine West is the opportunity for all students to pursue their respective interests in many different fields. She does, however, have one complaint to level against the school. "Deserving students should be allowed a few more freedoms."
In her spare time, she trains her quarter horse to jump. Her hobbies range from skiing to horseback riding, and from these two hobbies come her pet peeves‑unorganized clubs and long lines waiting at the ski lifts.
Last summer Karen spent some time in Hawaii. Carbondale and Hawaii are her favorite city and state.
"Scrugg" cites her most embarrassing experience as the time her dad was taking movies while she and her horse were taking jumps and she fell off. "I was so embarrassed," she chided.
Her plans for the future are settled. She will attend the University of Colorado at Boulder where she hopes to major in French. After college she'd like to travel to Europe.

"Teachers who continually change their mind is my pet peeve," admitted Linda Virostko, or "Virosk," as her friends call her. This came about when her two best friends whose names are Linda decided that when someone said, "Hey, Linda," it proved to be a problem.
"The best thing about Maine West is the different activities in which students can take part: plays, debate teams, clubs, and the wide variety of classes," she continued.
"I think they should take part in after‑school activities. They should look the clubs and activities over in their freshman year and the following year join them, doing all they can to be of benefit in them.
"However, I think the most important thing about Maine West is the diversified interests of the students. Also the teachers are so specialized.
"But if I were going to improve Maine West, I think the students should take advantage of the opportunities they have here; the teachers should give all the students equal opportunities.
"My most embarrassing moment occurred last week on the way to homeroom. Somebody had been throwing rice which caused me to find my way to the floor."
Linda's courses include English IVW, economics, probability and statistics, law, Senior Leaders, Student Council, and the Legend of which she is editor‑in‑chief.
Linda is also a member of Pep Club, Class Council, Quill and Scroll, National Honor Society, Sigma Chi Sigma, and Tri‑S.
Linda is going to attend Valparaiso University in Indiana.
