MW Council Sponsors Visits

On Wednesday, April 12, Maine West sent eight students to four neighboring schools. Ray Kincaid '70 and Linda Virostko '67 went to Evanston. Sue Stein '67 and Donna Lindfors '68 visited Oak Park‑River Forest. Gregg Essig '68 and Karen Felix '67 went to Niles East, and Linda Wells '68 and Scott Gilmore '67 went to Elk Grove High School.

On Thursday, April 13, the Student Council members reported what they had learned on Wednesday at the different schools.

Ray Kincaid reported that Evanston has a fantastic drama department. Linda Virostko said that Evanston's campus is very different and their Student Council system is unlike ours.

Linda Wells stated that the honor students at Elk Grove have formed a program called "Self‑Imposed Students." These students are allowed to cut classes as often as they want as long as they pass all of their tests.

"Niles East has a special program for the deaf," reported Gregg Essig.

Sue Stein commented that Oak Park‑River Forest High School is "built around tradition."

"This year's Student Council exchange did not only benefit the students who participated in the exchange but also the whole Student Council. We hope that all the information gained will soon be related to the entire student body," said Bonnie Witzl '68, chairman of Public Relations Committee of Student Council.

On Wednesday, April 12, we received five exchange students from neighboring schools. From Oak Park two girls and one boy and from Niles East one boy and one girl visited. Debbie Lusk '70, Mary Holm '67, Doug Chase '67, Bonnie Witzl, and Pete Dellegrazio '67 each stayed with one of these students.
