School To Name Pool For
Mr. Harold Baer

Mr. Harold G. Baer died Easter Sunday after a brief illness. In his memory the pool wing will be dedicated as the Harold G. Baer Natatorium.

A bronze plaque will be mounted on the south wall of the pool area by the beginning of school next year. So far, sketches of the proposed plaque have been ordered.

The idea was presented in Student Council. Said Doug Chase, Student Council president, "Mr. Baer did a lot for athletics here at Maine, and it's only fitting that we dedicate the pool in which he worked to him."

According to Mr. Kenneth Olson, chairman of the Boys' Physical Education Department, plans for any dedication are as yet indefinite.

The plans evolved from an idea originated by members of the swim team and M‑Club. Speaking for the team, swimmer Norm Hudson '67 asserted, "To myself and many others, Mr. Baer and Maine West swimming are synonymous. It seems proper that we should remember Coach Baer in connection with the pool."
