Vivienne Geiger '68 and Mary Ann Jados '68 were named editors‑in‑chief of the Legend and the Westerner, respectively, at the Quill and Scroll Banquet held May 10 at Heuer's Restaurant. Members of the Legend and Westerner staffs and the journalism class attended the banquet.

Guests for the evening were Mr Herman Rider, principal; Mr. Robert Rupar, publicity director at Maine West; and Mr. Robert Manewith, director of news for WGN radio. Mr. Manewith showed a film and gave a talk on "Your Future in Journalism." Mr. Rider and Mr. Rupar presented awards. Mr. George Walker, who sponsors both publications and Quill and Scroll, was also present.

After the talk Jacque LaSalle '67, president of Quill and Scroll, and Anita Waskowski '67, secretary, conducted the inititation of the new members. Those initiated were Melissa Amling '68, Pam Barger '68, Marilyn Brock '68, Diane Cozzi '67, Candy Crowe '67, Karen Felix '67, Viv Geiger, Elizabeth Grange '67, and Lynne Handler '68.

Still others were Sandy Hurley '68, Linda Larsen '68, Sue Ripley '68, Janice Thain '68, Bob Therriault '69, Ted Waskowski '69, Pat Winecke '67, Kathie Wolf '69, and Pat Zawodnk '67. Service awards went to Jerry Reid '67 and Larry Coffman '67.

The new Legend staff was announced by Linda Virostko '67, current editor‑in‑chief. The 1968 staff will be Viv Geiger, editor-in‑chief; Ted Waskowski, business manager; Melissa Amling, senior editor; Sue Ripley, activities editor; Pam Barger, class editor; Bill Johnson '68, sports editor; Lynette Berry '69, clubs editor; Joan Walter '69, organizations editor; Janet Moranz '69, academics editor; Kathy Geertz '69, faculty editor; Ann Blonston '69, administration editor; and Sue Miller '69, staff editor.

More members are Karen Raack '70, senior assistant; Tina Kaneen '70, class assistant; Carolyn Toren '70, organizations, clubs, and activities assistant; Don Bauer '70, sports assistant; Sue Lloyd '68, technical assistant; and Bob Therriault '70, special photographer.

The new Westerner staff, announced by present editor‑in-chief Karen Felix, consists of Mary Ann Jados, editor‑in‑chief; Lynne Handler and Sandy Hurley, co‑managing editors; Marilyn Brock '68, Page 1 editor; Kathie Wolf and Janet Giardini '69, Page 1 assistants; Marcia Moulton '68, Page 2 editor; Jo Hynes '69 and June Hettgar '68, Page 2 assistants; Janice Thain '69, Page 3 editor; and Linda Andrews '68 and Barb Goodey '68, Page 3 assistants.

The staff will be completed by Ted Fess '68, Page 4 editor; Mike Wisniewski '68, assistant; Debbie Perry '69 and Sue Salyers '69, art editors; Linda Larsen and Donna Marinier '68, exchange managers; and Bob Therriault and Ray Anderson '69, photographers.

Awards from the Northern Illinois School Press Association were presented by Mr. Walker to Ted Waskowski, Linda Andrews, Debbie Perry, Karen Felix, Bob Therriault, and the Legend.

After several ballots, members of Quill and Scroll elected Sandy Hurley as president of the Quill and Scroll Society and Melissa Amling as secretary for the ensuing year.
