A former student at the College of Wooster and Northwestern University and a native of Pennsylvania, Miss Nancy Roha has joined the Maine West teaching staff this year as a member of the English Department.
Although she has not done much traveling, Miss Roha would like to visit New Orleans. "I don't know why," she laughed, saying that she is "just on a kick to visit New Orleans."
She enjoys her classes most "when a student begins to think about something he has never thought about before." She feels that a class where students ask and discuss questions is better than a class in which everyone knows and repeats the answers.
Miss Roha feels the classroom work should relate to the students' lives. Next year she hopes to work more with speech and oral reading in her classes because she feels that many students do not know how to read so that "The language comes out to be a language of rhythm and a language of beauty."
When a class is interesting and a student is encouraged in something, Miss Roha thinks he will do better in it. "I have been proud of the themes my students have written," she states. "I hope they feel the same." She also believes that a teacher should not try to make the student feel as though he "can't do anything right." Recalling that she was made to feel completely inadequate in a physical education class while in high school, Miss Roha declared, "I hope I never make a student feel like that."
This summer Miss Roha plans to work at a west‑side neighborhood house. Having worked there before, she says, about her past experience, "I think these people offer a way of life completely different from my own." She thinks it is easy to say that one's way of life is best until one has seen others. "All of us need to move outside of our own lives," she states. "We won't judge others so quickly. We will be more tolerant."

The new 5' 3" hazel‑eyed, brown‑haired teacher who teaches marketing and typing is Miss Marcia Storey.
"The facilities offered to the teachers and students is the thing I like best," stated Miss Storey. She feels there is not enough communication between Maine West and the community. "The parents don't know enough about what is going on at Maine; and when awards are given out to the athletes, very few people show up. She feels that if the parents knew what was going on more people would attend. Maine could be improved if more people would learn their own responsibility and more students were involved in activities.
Miss Storey thinks school spirit is good, but there could be more shown. "I feel the students at Maine should be proud of their school and show it," stated Miss Storey.
Her advice to students is to do the best at all times, because one never knows where extra effort will make the difference between success and failure. Miss Storey commented "Maine has an outstanding reputation for high standards in education, and I feel the students should try to uphold this."
Miss Storey's favorite city is Colorado Springs and her favorite state is Colorado. She has traveled all over the United States which includes skiing in Vermont and swimming and water skiing in Wisconsin. Miss Storey enjoys being outside and also reading mystery stories. In her spare time she sponsors the Cheerleading Squad and, as she put it, "Just goofing off." Gum chewers and gossips are her pet peeves.
Miss Storey attended the University of Illinois. She feels working with teens is a wonderful experience and that teaching is an excellent profession.
This summer Miss Storey will attend graduate school at Northern Illinois University in her home town of De Kalb.
