West's Student Council
Attends Convention

Three Maine West students attended this year's Illinois Association of Student Councils Convention The purpose of this convention was, first, to encourage leadership in students, and second, to elect new officers. Randy Hann '69 and Linda Wesolowski '69 were the representatives sent by Maine West. Bill Robertson '68 went to the convention as a district representative.

The convention was held April 27‑29 at the Sherman House in Chicago. From 1,500 to 2,000 delegates from all sections of the state attended.

The convention consisted of five general sessions. The activities which took place during these sessions were, in general, speeches by three keynote speakers, a banquet and a dance, the election of

Illinois Association of Student Council officers, and the holding of district and district-board meetings.

The three keynote speakers at the convention were Mr. John E. Jones, Dr. Alice Fehrenbach, and Professor George Walter. Their speeches dealt with the theme of the convention: "Unlock the world; you are the key."

Another activity which took place during the convention was the election of new officers.

James Longley, 17, a junior at Aurora West High School was elected president of the association, replacing Peter Bateman, a senior at Lyons Township High School.
