Friday, May 19, will mark the conclusion of a year's work for the Maine West Music Department as they present their May concert.
The Concert Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Mildred Heidorn, will open the program with Rossini's "William Tell Overture." The orchestra will also present Samuel Barber's "unusual" work, "Adagio for Strings." Curt Hayward, Maine West senior, will change the pace in his presentation of "Piano Concerto" by Shostakovich. Gershwin's highlights f r o m Porgy and Bess will modulate the program to the choruses under the direction of Mr. Wilbur Schafer.
"Out of the Depths" by Alan Hovhaness features Lorraine Jensen '67 as soprano soloist. Jou Diemer's "Three Madrigals" will set a new mood. Mr. James Thunder, organ teacher and professional organist, will be featured as organ accompanist in "Light Divine" from "Caalleria Rusticana" by Pietro Mascagni. The selection "Moon River," Mercer‑Mancini, will spotlight Dave Larson '68 as tenor soloist. The Choraliers will conclude the choral selections by singing "April Is in My Mistress' Face" by Thomas Morley and the "popular"
"Lady of Spain" by Reaves Evans.
From the gentle blend of choral music there will be a change to the rousing music of the Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Robert Kuite, as they present "Fanfore La Pen" by Dukas.. To continue on a more classic note the band will play the "Prelude and Fugue in G minor" by J. S. Bach. They will also play Wagner's

"Elsa's Procession to Cathedral" from Lohengrin. Selections from the "smash" Broadway musical, Fiddler on the Roof, will include the selections "Fiddler on the Roof," "Sabbath Prayer," "Match maker," and "To Life."
Carol Funk '67, solo twirler, will be featured in "Fugue for Tinhorns" from Guys and Dolls by Loesser. Following this presentation will be a solo Dixieland combo including John Balma '67, clarinet; Don Kaap '67, cornet; Mark Weidner '67, saxophone; Norm Hudson '67, trombone; Kurt Soroosh '67, tuba; Frank Grange '68, banjo; and John Houston 67, drums For those who enjoy a stirring Sousa march the band will conclude their portion of the program with "Stars and Stripes Forever."
The Show Band, under the direction of Mr. Michael Cuthbert, will present "To Thee O Asphodel" by Bob Freedman. "Easy Street," arranged by Don Costa, will spotlight Don Kaap '67 as solo trumpet. "Cookin' " by Ralph Mutchler will feature Ron Kempke '67, guitar; Steve Lilja '67, trombone; and Don Kaap '67. To conclude the program, the Show Band will perform "Congenial" by Jared Spears.
Accompanists for the program will be Sue Chamberlin '70, Mark Nichols '67, Laura Greenaway '68, and Don Behrens '68.
