Golf Team Concludes Season

The Warrior golfers will conclude their season's play with two Conference events next week. Conant hosts Maine in a dual meet Tuesday, and Wheeling hosts the Conference meet Friday, in which all the Conference teams play. The Warriors have virtually no chance to take first place in the Mid‑Suburban League, but they can place third by winning both the upcoming events.

Last week's play was both good and bad for West as the golfers beat Elk Grove, lost to Palatine, and placed tenth in the State District.

The District meet was held on Friday, May 12, at Chevy Chase Country Club and was hosted by Maine South. The South Hawks took first place honors by narrowly beating Evanston. The Westmen were about 30 strokes off the winning total with a score of 360. Merk shot an 88; Edwards shot an 89; Helfers shot a 91; and Grutzius shot a 92.

Palatine narrowly edged out the Warriors in a dual meet on the preceding day at the home of the Pirates. The score was 177 for Palatine and 178 for West. Rick Merk paced the field with a 42 and was followed by Helfers, Grutzius, and Krowka who shot 44, 46, and 46 respectively. Palatine's Sheldon led the Pirate attack with a round of 42.

The Warriors squashed the Elk Grove Grenadiers on Monday, May 8, by a 177.202 score. Merk was again the medalist with a round of 42. Grutzius came in with a 44; Krowka carded a 45; and Helfers scored a 46. Low man for Elk Grove was Schultz with a 47.
