Four impressive wins were carved into the 1967 record of Coach Roger King's varsity tennis team. The netmen dropped two Mid‑Suburban League rivals, Elk Grove and Palatine, while also sending the fine tennis teams of Barrington and Waukegan home with a loss.
The pair of wins in each of the last two preceding weeks gives the varsity squad a 10 and 2 dual meet record along with solid possession of second place in the league.
In the District competition Maine came in with a second place behind powerful Arlington which scored 17 points to the 11 amassed by the Warriors.
Rich Gillespie of Forest View kept Maine's John Stone from taking the trip downstate in the first singles division by posting a 1‑6, 6‑4, 6‑2 win.
The four dual‑meet wins during the last two weeks consisted of three 5 to 0 shutouts and a 3 to 2 decision over the tough Waukegan Bulldogs. The meet was cinched by the Warriors when they received a win from their first doubles team of Hank Blau and Scott Schlesser. The Warrior duo posted a victory over a Waukegan doubles combination that had lost only twice this year.

John Stone took a slim, three set loss to Alden of Waukegan in first singles with a 4‑6, 6‑3, 7‑5 score while Dave Williams in second singles defeated Meng in straight sets, 7‑5, 6‑3.
Scully gave Maine third singles with a 26, 6‑4, 6‑3 victory over Berger; and the Warrior victory in first doubles gave the Warriors a satisfying win at the expense of Suburban power Waukegan.
The matches in the Palatine and Elk Grove encounters were strictly no contest. The Warrior combination of Stone in first singles, Williams in second, and Scully in third did not lose a set in either meet and were challenged only once.
The doubles teams of Schlesser and Blau, and Caddy with Clark also had little trouble as they too only came close to dropping a set once.
