The Eighth Annual Commencement Exercises for Maine Township High School West will be held in the Maine East Field House on Wednesday, June 7, 1967, at 8 p.m.
The program will open with a fanfare by Mr. Jared Spears, former Maine West teacher, composed especially for Maine West graduations. The Concert Band, conducted by Mr. Robert Kuite, will play the processional. Included will be "Coronation March" from The Prophet by Meyerbeer, "March Processional" by Grundman, and Luthhold's "Onward."
After the presentation of the colors by a student guard and the singing of the National Anthem, the Reverend Ernest C. Grant of the First Congregational Church of Des Plaines will give the invocation.
Joseph Richardson, Senior Class president, will then make, the welcoming address and introduce the salutatorian and valedictorian who will, in turn, make the Commencement addresses.
Mr. E. Hoy McConnell will present watches to Mr. Kenneth Olson, Boys' Physical Education Department chairman, and Mr. Robert Wells, assistant principal, for 25 years of service rendered at Maine.
Dr. Richard R. Short, superintendent, will present the 630 members of the class to Mr. E. Hoy McConnell, president of the Board of Education.

Board of Education members Messrs. Robert W. Beart, John L. Means, William T. Newport, and John W. Wilkins, will present the diplomas. The graduates' names will be announced by Mr. Donald Anderson and Mr. George Walker, Jr.
Following the singing by the Class of 1967 of the Maine West Alma Mater, the recessional will begin. Included are Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstances," Roberts' "Pomp and Chivalry," and Goldman's "University Grand March." The audience is requested to remain seated until the recessional is completed.
The Commencement Sermon was held at the Maine East Field House on Sunday, June 4, at 3 p.m. The Commencement Orchestra, conducted by Mrs. Mildred Heidorn, played for and the recessional.
The Commencement Concert Choir, conducted by Mr. Wilbur Schafer, sang "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God." The invocation was delivered by the Reverend J. Hughes; the benediction was given by the Reverend R. K. Wobbe.
The Reverend Edwin G. Wappler delivered the sermon, "What Is an Educated Man?"
