School Honors Valedictorian, Salutatorian,
Departmental, Good Will Award Winners

The annual Senior Honors Assembly was held this morning at 9 a.m. in the auditorium for the Class of 1967. Presiding were Mr. Herman L. Rider, principal, and Mr. Robert Wells, assistant principal. Department chairmen presented the departmental awards.

Top academic awards were announced and presented. The valedictorian for the class is Norine Meister. The salutatorian is Anita Waskowski. Both will give addresses at the Commencement Exercises on Wednesday.

Fifteen departmental awards were presented this year. The Art Department award went to George Bethurem. Two students, Judith Foreman and Linda Jannusch, received the awards from the Business Education Department.

Christine Calams and Mary Beth Moll were the choices of the English Department. The Home Economics Department made its award to Patricia Dierks. The Industrial Education Department awards were won by Kenneth Henk and Robert Perry.

The Language Department high award winner was Regina Ahrens. The Mathematics Department chose Joseph Kilar for its award. In Music the award went to Mark Nichols.

The Boys' Physical Education Department named Reed Hauck while the Girls' Physical Education Department selected Ruth Christian. The Science Department award was won by Linda Pinzke. The Social Science Department made the award to Elizabeth Klimek.

Good Will Awards were presented to students who exemplified good living and good citizenship both within and outside of the school. These students were

nominated by the Senior homeroom teachers and voted upon by the entire Senior Class and all of the members of the faculty of Maine West.

Good Will Award winners are Douglas Chase, Patricia Clement, Peter Dellegrazio, Diane Fehrenbacher, Charlotte Freeman, Alan Fritz, Nancy Gunn, Curtis Hayward, Richard Manny, Sheila Quinn, Joseph Richardson, and Susan Ziehn.

One Honorary Good Will Award was presented. The recipient was Sukru Gurel, Maine West's foreign exchange student from Turkey, for his exceptional promotion of good will here.

Participating as an honor guard at this morning's assembly were members of the Junior National Honor Society. They also serve at the Commencement Sermon and the Commencement Exercises.

The members of the Junior Honor Guard this year are John Carlson, Jane Engle, Vivienne Geiger, Franklin Grange, Sandra Hurley, Virginia Isenbarger, Ann Jackson, Jeri Jacob, Mary Ann Jados, and Linda Klippert.

Still others are Kathleen Malten, Norman Markworth, Donald Maruska, Gary Moranz, Diane Myers, Philip Schug, Frank Schulz, Carolyn Shayman, Jean Spindler, Gail Stubenrauch, and Linda Vanden Branden.

Various other special awards were also made at the assembly. Honor roll students from the Junior Class, Sophomore Class, and Freshman Class were invited to attend for the first time.
