New Cheerleading Squads Prepare
for New Year

Next year's varsity cheerleaders were chosen Thursday and Friday, May 4 and 5. The new squad consists of Joan Beyer '68, captain; Linda Peterson '68, co‑captain; Pat Cordts '69; Katie Mandell '69; Jackie Silk '68; and Linda Wesolowski '69.

Two alternates, Patti Falconer '68 and Eileen Goelz '69, were also chosen at that time. These two girls will attend minor athletic events as well as cheer durthe absences of other squad members.

Friday, May 5, the junior varsity squad was announced. They are Corliss Belzer '69, captain; Joann Pabich '70 co‑captain; Cindy Bol '69; Chris Clausen '70; Jeannie Frank '70; and Connie Schlesser '69. Each girl was judged on her jumps, splits, stunts, voice, pep, appearance, motions, and the judges' personal reactions.

"Maine West has always had a top‑notch squad, and I expect the same next year," stated Miss Marcia Storey, sponsor. "However," she added, "in order to have that type of squad the girls must be given the support of all the students." She also mentioned she was glad to see new faces on junior varsity.

This summer the squads will attend cheerleading camp where they will learn new cheers and techniques. At the end of June the '66‑'67 varsity and junior varsity squads will compete at the International Amphitheatre in the World Teen Show. Girls on the first place squad will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
