Two New Teachers Air Opinions
of Maine West

"I like it all; it's a fine place" was Mr. Eugene Patrizi's enthusiastic reply to what he likes best about Maine West. Mr. Patrizi teaches Art I, crafts, and sketching to students of all years. Before he came to Maine, he taught at a junior high in Berwyn.

Mr. Patrizi attended Bloom Township High School and Northern Illinois University. He is now working toward his Master of Arts degree by taking summer courses.

During the summers of '64 and '66 he traveled to Europe with the help of the university. On the tour he visited cities, workshops, factories, museums, and cathedrals. Some of the countries visited were Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, and Italy.

He feels teaching is a wonderful profession because he is able to help and give something to another individual. He also believes it is great when a student can benefit from what he has learned. Mr. Patrizi advises all students to "Make the most of high school and enjoy it."

In his spare time, Mr. Patrizi enjoys painting, music, tennis, and all types of dancing. Two of his art works are on display in the faculty showcase.

When asked what he disliked about Maine. Mr. Patrizi remarked, "the small percent of people who don't do their work." His pet peeve is "the person who comes to class unprepared and expects the teacher to give him help."

Because he is new to the school, Mr. Patrizi has not had the chance to see much of Maine's school spirit, but he does believe that all students should support the team.

"I think there's room for improvement, but I can't think of anything right now." This opinion of Maine West was given by Mrs. Sandra Haggart, one of Maine West's new Spanish teachers. She then added, "But there's always room for improvement anywhere." She likes Maine West and thinks the best thing about it is the friendliness. She hasn't had a chance to attend any Maine West sports events yet since she and her husband have season tickets to Northwestern, but what she has seen of school spirit "seems to be okay." She enjoys teaching but feels that how much a teacher likes the job depends a lot on the students.

The blond‑haired Californian, who once worked as a secretary for American Hospital Supply in Evanston, is a graduate of Northwestern University, also in Evanston. She is widely traveled, having been to Europe and Mexico. She went to school in Mexico and Spain for a year and of all the places she has visited likes Spain best.

She doesn't like students who don't know when to settle down; she thinks the class should settie down after a few minutes. Mrs. Haggart sometimes warns her classes when she is in a bad mood, so they can be extra careful during that period.

Mrs. Haggart has had many funny and embarrassing moments but doesn't recall one which stands out in her memory.
