Riding on the strength of three initial Conference victories, the varsity cross country team will encounter their toughest opponent, Arlington, tonight in an away meet. To date Arlington is also undefeated, and the contest promises to be a close battle. According to Head Coach Bill Barringer, Maine has a 50‑50 chance of winning tonight's meet. A victory at Arlington would put West in an excellent position for taking the Conference championship.
Last week's action for the harriers included three meets, all with Conference rivals. The Forest View Falcons, defending Conference champs, invaded Maine at the Warrior home course last Friday. However, they were no match for the Warriors, as they could place only one man in the first five runners. Lee LaBadie won the race of two miles with a time of 10:04. Lambert of Forest View earned second place with a time of 10:15 and was followed by Warriors Ed Lush, Doug Chase, and Scott Schlesser. The fifth man for Maine was Bill Deuser in tenth place. The score of the meet was 23-32 in Maine's favor and brought home a big victory for the Warriors. Sophomore Bob Glitz, brought down from varsity, captured first place in the frosh-soph meet to help the little Warriors defeat Forest View. Completing the scoring for Maine West were Plas, Wolski, Wolf, and Dreischarf, as they compiled an 18-45 score.
