The 1966 Homecoming was a roaring success last week with all the Maine West football teams emerging victorious. Coach Ken Olson's varsity led the way when they downed the Falcons of Forest, View 35 to 7, utilizing their opponent's mistakes to every advantage to grab an early lead and then hold back the onslaught of the tough Forest View ground game.
On October 1 the Warriors met with rival Prospect for the last time in a Conference battle and retained the traveling trophy in a 14 to 7 win. The Warrior pass rush was overwhelming in the contest as ends Bruce Kaechele and Tom Pyron combined with middle linebacker Ken Werner to give Prospect quarterback John Phillips little time to throw. Maine had two touchdowns called back in the game but overcame these setbacks to put together a consistent offense all afternoon.
Against the Falcons Sanchez kicked off, and on the first play from scrimmage the Warriors swarmed on the Forest View quarterback and caused a fumble. A wild scramble resulted in the chase for the loose ball, and Bruce Kaechele won giving the Warriors first and 10 on the 17‑yard line of Forest View.
Bob Banger and Dick Manny combined carrying the ball for the Warriors to the 1‑yard line where Dick plunged into the end zone for a score. Sanchez added the extra point, and Maine led 7 to 0.
Maine scored the next time they got their hands on the ball when Banger took a pitchout from the Warrior quarterback Murdock and heaved a 15-yard pass to Al Fritz for a touchdown at 5:38 of the first

quarter. The play was set up by another pass from Murdock to Dale Haase earlier in the series. Again Sanchez's boot was good, and the Warriors took a 14 to 0 advantage.
Forest View began to roll somewhat after they received the kickoff on passes from Gillespie to Braasch and hard runs by Fred Berg. The drive was thwarted, however, when Bob Banger made a diving interception of a pass in the end zone.
Forest View finally got on the scoreboard for the only time in the game late in the first half when Gillespie hit Lynch and then Braasch twice in a row before Jacoby hit into the end zone for a score.
After that tough first half there was no stopping the Warriors who piled up 14 points in the third quarter and 7 in the final period while shutting out the Falcons.
Scoring for the Warriors in the second half was Ken Mandelky on a 64‑yard run and Bob Banger who went over once in each of the last two periods. The final score was Maine West 35, Forest View 7.
In the junior varsity game, the Warriors scored on an 82‑yand run by Hooper and a 66‑yard pass play from Selig to LeCastro to win 13 to 7.
The Sophomores pushed across a touchdown in the last minute of play on a blocked punt to win 13 to 7 while Coach Ed Atkinson's freshman team demolished Forest View 26 to 7.
