Orchesis, Maine West's modern dance club, under the supervision of Miss Kathy Van Ness, opened the year with a workshop which was held Saturday, October 22, in the Maine West C‑wing gym.
One hundred girls and 15 schools were represented at the workshop. Maine West was represented at the workshop by 10 girls.
The girls learned jazz and modern dancing techniques from Judith Scott of the Henry Street Playhouse in New York. A professional actor gave a lecture on mime, after which the girls from Palatine demonstrated the mime techniques.
The club elected officers, and Cheri Scheuller '68 was chosen president. The other officers are Sue Lenhart '68, vice‑president; Nancy Menger '69, secretary-treasurer; and Nancy Mott '68, publicity.
Orchesis hopes to have a dance concert in the spring, but they have made no definite plans to date.

Tryouts were held three weeks ago, and the selected girls meet every Wednesday for practice. There are presently 28 members in Orchesis.
Orchesis plans to attend workshops held by other schools in the area and a professional performance of dance.
Last year the group attended a workshop at Palatine and also a contemporary dance‑theater program in Chicago.
Miss Van Ness was asked if she thought the girls were good as a group, and she said, "I think the girls are very good, and they show great interest. They have very good officers, and they try their best to make the club a success." She also said that she thought that the club is good for the girls, and they need to be praised for their work and interest.
