Cross Country Team Falls To
Arlington Cardinals

Maine West's cross country team took first place in the Conference meet last Friday, October 21, and will try to capture first place in the District meet tomorrow.

Twenty‑five schools will participate in the District meet which is to be held here at Maine West. Arlington, Evanston, and New Trier East are some top teams competing against Maine West tomorrow. First and second place winners from this meet will go downstate to compete with other District winners.

The Conference meet that was held at Forest View last Friday ended with Maine West on top. The varsity won with 40 points; Arlington took second place with 59 points; and Forest

View and Palatine tied for third with 70 points. Conant finished with 103 points; Prospect had 182; and Wheeling took last place with 195 points.

Some of the outstanding runners from Maine West were Lee LaBadie, who took first place; Ed Lusk, who finished fifth; Schlesser, who captured eighth; and Doug Chase, who closely followed in ninth place. Forty-nine runners competed in the Conference meet from seven schools.

Preceding the varsity race, the frosh‑soph harriers fell to Prospect and came in second with 56 points. Prospect finished first with 31 points; Arlington captured third place with 76 points; and Wheeling ended with 79 points.

Bob Glitz captured first place with second and third places going to Prospect. Conant's man finished fourth; fifth and sixth places 'went to Prospect and Arlington respectively; and Gary Wolf finished in seventh place.

At the Palatine Meet which was held Tuesday, October 18, the Warrior varsity defeated the Pirates by a score of 15 to 44. The first five places went to the harriers with LaBadie taking first with 9:06; Lusk was second with 9:46; and Deuser finished fifth with 9:52.

The frosh‑soph squad also defeated Palatine by a score of 15 to 50. The harriers trounced Palatine by capturing the first 10 places. Glitz took first 'with 10:31; Wolski took second with 10:36; Wolf, Plas, and Schank were third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

Friday, October 14, was a hard day for the varsity runners. The harriers fell to the Arlington Cardinals by a score of 27 to 28. LaBadie took first with 10:03; Dieters (A) was second with 10:11; Lusk captured third with 10:13; Busch (A) came in fourth with 10:16; Chase was fifth with 10:18.

Although the Warrior varsity lost, the frosh‑soph went to Arlington and won by a score of 23 to 36. Glitz came in first; Plas took third; Wolf was fifth; and Dreischarf finished sixth.
