If you're looking for a blond-haired, blue‑eyed senior girl who spends most of her spare time in Old Town, you don't have to look far. You'll find her presiding over Girls' Club Council, every day during 6B. She's Lynn Nielsen, this year's Girls' Club president.
Lynn enjoys Girls' Club, but it has caused her some problems. During the Senior‑Faculty Tea last year, Lynn explained, "All the underclass Council members had to serve. As I picked up a box of tarts, the middle caved in; and they spilled all over the floor." She was lucky, though, because at the end of the Tea there was just one tart left.
Besides heading Girls' Club, Lynn is a member of Student Council, and is taking modern history, government, psychology, and English IVW. She likes modern history best because her teacher is "excellent" and she likes the lecture‑type course.
She thinks the best thing about Maine West is ". . the teachers. I've never had a teacher that I thought was bad. Two of my teachers, Mr. Barnes and Miss Jenewein, are especially good."
Lynn feels that "When I was a freshman, the worst thing I saw was the upperclassmen's spirit. Now that I'm a senior, I've seen that it's improved so much."
Lynn advises underclassmen to ". . Join activities early in high school; don't wait until your junior year. You only get out of your four high school years what you put into them."
After high school, Lynn hopes to attend either Eastern or Southern Illinois Universities, work for her Masters degree in history and then teach history on the high school level in Illinois.

Blond‑haired, blue‑eyed Ed Pluemer plans to major in the field of science. He likes music, which is one of his hobbies, along with work and reading. His biggest hobby is "just doing everything."
Ed's advice to students is to "Mix education with fun." In other words "Just enjoy yourself as much as you can while studying." He quips, "I know how hard that is." Being president of Boys' Club takes most of his spare time; but when he has some, he likes to play with his group, "The Frantics."
If he had the opportunity to improve Maine, he would build up the student body to get closer ties and to promote a more clanish feeling among the students at Maine.
He dislikes the stringent discipline at Maine. "It's all right, but the kids should have a chance to prove themselves." If there is one thing he likes about Maine, it is the athletic department. "We have the best athletic coaches around."
A lot of funny things have happened to Ed, but the funniest incident occurred when some fellows were kidding him about being a weakling. They told him to tear a book in half to prove himself. So he picked the closest book and tore it in two. Then he found out it was the book he had borrowed from someone.
