Tonight the Warriors face the Barrington Broncos and hope for their first win in a non-Conference game which will open the basketball season for this year.
The game is to be held at the Maine East fieldhouse at 7 p.m. The sophomore team will play first, and the varsity will come onto the floor at about 8:30 p.m.
Mr. Gaston Freeman, coach of the varsity basketball team, feels very optimistic about this year's team. He states that "The boys are very cooperative and hard‑working as well. They are a fine bunch of boys and should show great potential."
Some of the promising members include Bob Banger, Don Bartholomae, Al Fritz, Dale Hasse, Bruce Kaechele, Dick Manny, Phil Murdock, Ken Mach, Tom Pyron, Craig Rowelis, and Harry Tistle.
Though the team consists mostly of seniors, Bob Banger, Bruce Kaechele, and Harry Tistle are juniors who show great potential for this year's varsity. Dick Manny and Al Fritz both lettered last year while juniors.
After the Warriors play Barrington, they will travel to Wankegan on November 23 for another non‑Conference game. Saturday, November 26, the netmen will play Niles West at their gymnasium.

Maine West will begin the series of Conference games beginning with Prospect on Friday, December 2, at the Maine East fieldhouse. Then the Warriors, hopefully with one win, will face the Falcons at Forest View who were high in the Conference standings last year. This game will be held on December 9. Maine West will then challenge its sister school Maine South on Friday, December 16, at the Maine South fieldhouse. The Warriors will play the Hawks in a non‑Conference game and will try to overcome their height.
During Christmas vacation, the netmen will enter the Proviso West Tournament on December 26‑29. This will be the climax of the year but not the end of the basketball season. Maine West plays Arlington on January 6, Palatine on January 13, and Morton West on January 14. The Warriors will also play Prospect, Forest View, and Maine South over again.
Mr. Freeman states that the team has a good defense, aggressiveness, and good balance. They have good depth and a style which will change according to the opponent. The only thing the team is lacking is height.
What does he feel about school spirit? Mr. Freeman says, "The Pep Club, the Cheerleaders, and the Pom‑Pon Squad should be complimented on the fine job they are doing to promote school spirit." He also feels that Maine West is in desperate need of a fieldhouse.
