The Long and Short of It

"Hey‑what's wrong with my long hair? If I get good grades, what difference does it make if my hair is long?"

"It's not like I'm the only one; the miniskirt is 'in.' Why should I be forced to lengthen mine?"

These same rebellious students can be seen in the halls of Maine West. It is important for them to realize that proper school attire is essential for good student behavior and high scholastic achievement. Therefore, the dress code at Maine West is in order and is definitely needed to sustain this order.

Maine West wants to maintain a good reputation for itself, as well as for its students. The students who do not adhere to this dress code not only degrade

themselves but also the school. This casual dress may be fine for outside activities but does not belong in the classroom, a student's business office.

Without the dress code students would have to use their own discretion in the clothing they would wear to school. However, being easily influenced by the new fads, students might not choose appropriate clothing. It is about time that the students of Maine West realize that the dress code is beneficial to them.

The students who oppose this dress code should start taking a mature attitude by dressing properly for school. They would find that it would be just as helpful to them now as it will be in the future.
