Grapplers Win First Three Contests

Coach Dick Carlini's varsity grapplers stormed to their third consecutive victory stomping the matmen of Oak Park, 25‑14. Randy Ryden led the Warriors with his third pin of the season, and Kurt Christiansen captured his third win with another pin. Other winners for the Warriors were Dave Grutzius at 103 pounds, Greg Dolphin at 127, Jim Klein at 133, Tom Helms at 138, and John Szaltis at 180 pounds.

Gary Curtin started off the meet with a 9 to 1 decision for Maine. Dave Grutzius followed with a 6 to 2 decision after which Kevin Postema lost 8 to 2. Kurt Christiansen then pinned his opponent, and Greg Dolphin beat his man 5 to 1. Ryden pinned Julian of Oak Park, and Gilmore was then beaten by Rohn. Sorenson lost but Szaltis beat his opponent 5 to 4, after which Yates was pinned to end the meet.

The Warriors won the second meet of the season by beating Morton West 32 to 12. Four of the varsity grapplers won by

pinning their opponents, and four won on points. Starting out for the Westmen at 95 pounds was Gary Curtin, who pinned Bistasio of Morton. Grutzius then beat his man 4 to 0 while Christiansen won 9 to 6 over Morton's Parizek. Postema lost to Jarot, but Dolphin brought another win to the Warriors with a 4 to 2 win over Bemos.

In the 133 pound class, Klein of Maine West pinned his opponent, Baumruck, in the second period of the match; and Chris Drake followed with an 8 to 3 victory over Podraza. Ryden finished his match in the first period with a pin, making it two pins in a row for him. Jim Morrison of Maine was beaten by Beaver 9 to 2, and Sorenson followed with another loss by a score of 5 to 3. Szaltis made it three losses in succession as he was narrowly beaten by Brewer, 5 to 4. Lee Yates ended the meet with a pin for the Warriors in the heavyweight class.

Coach Carlini's wrestlers will again take part in the Lake Park Quadrangular over the Christmas holidays.
