Gymnasts Win Two; Lose Three

The varsity gymnastics squad has been involved in some very tough meets against some very tough opponents lately. The Warriors suffered losses against Evanston, which was State champion last year, New Trier West, and West Leyden. Even though the musclemen encountered defeat in the first three meets, they beat Glenbrook North 73‑59 and tied with Oak Park 66‑66.

The Warrior's next meet will be at Arlington on January 7 which will start the Conference meets for the new season.

On December 12 the musclemen faced Oak Park in an interesting battle in which neither team came out on top. The Warriors captured first places in four of the six events but still didn't win. On side horse Larry Scully placed first, Ron Sass took second, and Steve Fox took fourth. On high bar Ron Sass took first, Jay Carley placed second, and Rich Suda finished sixth.

John Holtz, Larry Cillo, and Ron Sass placed first, fourth, and fifth respectively on the rings. On parallel bars Ron Sass took first; Larry Scully finished fourth; and Gary Grooman placed fifth. Rich Suda, who was the only muscleman to place in the tumbling event, took a sixth. On the trampoline Howie Tyler, Andy Kurtz, and Tom Tyler placed third, fourth, and fifth respectively. The score was tied at 66‑66.

The meet with Glenbrook North also showed that the Warriors were strong apparatuswise. The musclemen took firsts in five of the six events and a second in the sixth event. The succeeding places mainly went to the opponents except for the fact that Jay Carley and John Holtz took seconds on the high bar and the rings respectively.
